Hey guys! Welcome back to another feature of my blog series, Women Rising to the Top!
So, let’s talk HAIR! In the past, I’ve tried several different products for my hair only to find out later that they did not work. But when I tried Carrie J Hair Care products, I was relieved that I had finally found something that worked for my hair. Janet’s hair care products was the PEEEERFECT SOLUTION to taming my mane hunny. No… seriously I’m not joking, you’ve got to try them yourself! My favorite products are the twisting butter and restorative hair oil. They make my kinky textured hair…4C type (TO BE EXACT) feel soft and full. Better yet.. my curls were sooo defined! TODAY, I would like to introduce you to the lovely founder and owner of Carrie J Hair Care! Janet makes products for ALL hair types, using 100% NATURAL ingredients and not only that… she even makes products for men as well.
“Gentlemen, if you are in need of taming that mane on your face.. you should check out her GROOMING KIT!”
ABOUT Carrie J…

YOLANDA J: Alright Janet, Tell us how Carrie J got started.
JANET: The idea to start my own hair care line came about in 2014. I was a hair blogger at the time and I found an interest in ingredients that were in the products I was reviewing. I became so eager to research and learn more about ingredients, how they work, and how they affect our hair. I found that a lot of the ingredients in the hair products I used at that time were filled with toxic chemicals that ultimately do nothing for textured hair. I was also struggling to find products that worked on my daughter’s kinky hair. So, I began to experiment with different ingredients and formulating products. After using them on my daughter’s hair, I began to distribute them to close family. The products were an absolute hit! A hobby of mine turned into a PASSION. Carrie J Hair Care was born in 2015, named after my late grandmother & we launched in 2018.
YOLANDA J: And it seems to be taking off so well! Now let’s talk about some of the challenging times you faced when you first started your business. Most people want to know what STRUGGLES they may face when starting their own businesses. What insight can you give your audience?
JANET: Starting a business is never easy. So one of the things I had to handle was figuring out how to fund my business. I just prayed and manifested what I needed. ONE thing about God, when He puts a gift in your heart He will provide! Eventually, I WAS ABLE to save up enough to launch!

YOLANDA J: What motivates you to keep going?
JANET: Remembering my WHY keeps me going. I have to remember that my purpose is not about me. The world needs what I have to offer. Customer testimonials ALWAYS keep me motivated. Just knowing that my products are making a difference is heart-warming.
I have to remember that my purpose is not about me.
YOLANDA J: I love that! So where did your business ideas come from. Did you have any mentors or special people in your life that helped create avenues or advice for your business?
JANET: I have definitely had others to help me along the way. Shoutout to Mrs. Shawanda Vickers and Tiana Patrice for being mentors to me in the beginning! Also, family and friends (such as yourself) definitely keep me going! So, thank you! 🙂 My parents and siblings were also my first investors.
YOLANDA J: It’s so great to have a wonderful support system around especially when you need it most! So the next question I want to ask you is what you typically tell people when they ask you what you do? Do you tell them your title or do you tell them what you offer?

(3 in 1 Cleansing Conditioner)
JANET: I tell them first what I offer. Then I let them know that I formulate and make my own products.
YOLANDA J: So.. what do you do on a daily basis to continue your growth as an entrepreneur? (What are some things you can no longer do?) What are some practice you have to put in place that help you grow as a business?
JANET: Nonstop research! I’m always wanting to learn more and grow. I strive to practice consistency and staying motivated. The thing I can no longer do is sell myself short. I try to run my business like it’s already a corporation!
The thing I can no longer do is sell myself short.
YOLANDA J: I love your mindset and your eagerness to grow! Knowing what you know now, what would be ONE piece of advice you would give yourself? Think about when you first started your business. You were walking into the unknown. If you could have given yourself a few suggestions and words of wisdom, what would they have been?
JANET: I would definitely tell myself don’t be afraid to ask for help. It’s okay to not know EVERYTHING & reach out to others who have ALREADY been where I AM.
YOLANDA J: Janet, in closing…How would you like people to remember you & Carrie J? What will be the legacy you want to leave behind?

JANET: I want people to know that I am genuinely passionate about what I do. I want them to know that all I ever wanted to do is make a difference by delivering products that WORK & giving back! I also want others to be inspired by my story and know that they can do anything they set their mind on doing!
